Honestly, John Green summed up his own book better than anyone could.
The fault in our stars is a young adult romance written by best selling author John Green. I am a previous fan of John Green as I adored his novel Looking for Alaska and was very much looking forward to reading this.
Hazel Grace Lancaster is sixteen with stage four Thyroid Cancer which she has been battling for three years. She constantly ponders about life, death and her illness. Due to what she calls "The Miracle" a drug treatment that stumped the growth of her tumours however she must still carry round an oxygen tank to help with her breathing.
Hazel spends most of her days in her bed rereading her favourite book, An Imperial Affliction, to which the protagonist has Leukaemia therefore she finds comfort as she can relate. Her mom viewed her behaviour as depression, which Hazel does not disagree with as "depression is a side affect of dying" therefore encourages her to go to a Cancer Kid Support Group for current and former cancer patients. This is where she meets the acquaintance of the hot Augustus Waters and here the story embarks its journey on its star crossed Romance.
Usually I steer clear of Cancer books for the fact the most of them all ultimately come to the same ending ( I do adore my "and they lived happily ever after" endings) , which John Green does point out but this novel did have a twist. However I loved this book,I started reading it last night and stayed up until I devoured every single pages through my the copious amounts of tears I was shredding. Though it is book orbiting the theme of cancer it is not morbid which is why it was able to be such an enjoyable read for me. Our brave hero and heroine frequently make us laugh with their humorous wit bouncing between each other and all. John Green creates a dream pairing between the two and you cannot help but feel the heartache of our protagonists, it is a major tearjerker .
My favourite quote in this book was
“My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations.”
To me this was just such a beautiful quote, and something that I and probably most people, can regularly relate to. However there are so many exquisite, deep, intelligent, phenomenal in this novel that really you just have to read the whole book!

I would definitely recommend this book for its effortless humour, sweetness and its fearless, honest insights in to mortality. This book is shelved under the books that have left a mark on my heart.
